There are two different versions of how
Joseph Michael Coskey and Margaret Mary Ryan met. One story is that
Margaret worked as an usher in a movie theater, and Joe used to take his mother
there to see the shows , because she loved the new form of entertainment.
The other story is that Margaret worked at the Stetson Hat Company with a cousin
of Joe's named Mickey Leader. Mickey lived a couple of doors away
from Joe's brother, Dory, and they met at the cousin's house. Either way,
they did meet, marry and have seven children. They started out in
Philadelphia but eventually moved to New Jersey.
Joe had gotten a job with the Post Telegram at 2nd and
Federal Sts. in Camden. It was then bought by the Evening Courier-Morning Post
newspaper, and he went to work for them and stayed with them for over 40 years.
They lived in many places before settling in the
Parkside section of Camden. In later years, they moved to the suburbs, because
Joe wanted to raised chickens, but wouldn't you know it- a law was passed in that town just
before they moved there to outlaw raising chickens!
They lived a full and happy life, and their family
consisted of their 7 children, 7 sons and daughters-in-law, 25 grandchildren and 35
great-grandchildren.....and every one of them has wonderful , happy memories of the family
gatherings at the house.
Joe passed away in January of 1976, and Margaret passed
away in September of 1990, and both are dearly missed.
